How to Participate

Posted by whitehoa on 21 Mar 2011

ONR

On May 1 Bryce Dymond will lead the One Nation Run (ONR), a relay across Canada, to raise awareness and funds to fight Canadian child poverty. To join the One Nation Run Collaboration, get the registration code from the Staff Room announcement.

Participation in the One Nation Run Collaboration involves three steps:

THINK: Learn about child poverty in Canada using the resources located in the Files and Bookmarks (left menu). Post discussions and blogs to share what you're learning and doing.

ACT: Participate in the ONR when it reaches your city or town (go to www.onenationrun.ca to get the schedule and details). Or, raise awareness of Canadian child poverty in your school community by organizing your own school run. We're challenging schools across Canada to plan their own ONR the in June. Invite students and parents to donate a toonie and participate in a 1 or 2 km run/walk in support of World Vision's Canadian programs. Or, examine the needs of your own community and organize a school run to support a local community program. Join the discussions to share your ideas for a school ONR event.

CHANGE: Post a "change" blog to share how the learning and action have changed students' views and attitudes on issues of poverty in Canada. Feel free to post images of your school's ONR event in the Gallery

If you have already created a class list in your World Class classroom, your class list will be automatically imported into the ONR collaboration space. Your students can begin posting discussions and blogs immediately. For directions on how to create a class list, go to the World Class User Guide.

If your students do not have regular access to the Internet but would still like to participate in the ONR, just post a whole class discussion or blog and let us know how you plan to participate.

Interested in having Bryce Dymond visit your school (in person or virtually) to speak with your students? Email your request to global_ed@worldvision.ca. We'll do our best to connect you with Bryce.
