Hello! We are a class of Grade 4 students at University Hill Elementary in Vancouver, B.C. In Social Studies, we are learning about the culture of the First Nations. We recently went on a field trip to the Museum of Anthropology where we learned about the Potlatch, a sacred ceremonial that was banned by the Canadian government in 1885. For the First Nations, many of their rights to freely express themselves was stripped away. Through some of the activities on this Birthday Bash Take Action project, our class will explore what the absence of certain rights such as birth documentation or registration means. We hope to explore some of the impacts, and hope you will join us!
